uh-uh -- apokyn works for the OTHER end of the symptoms; the OFF,
hypomobility times; the freeze. it would have a terrible effect if used
while a PWP is at the opposite side of the spectrum, i.e., dyskentic
and/or writhing.

http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/2004/ANS01284.html

apomorphine has been available in israel for a while now, but only
recently (i believe since the FDA approved it in the US) has become
available in a new form of packaging which makes it user-friendly and not
as off putting as "sticking a needle" might sound. it's probably more
reminiscent of the discreet insulin 'pumps' for diabetics.

and it truly works wonders to get a person out of a FREEZE. alas,
doesn't last long -- say 20 minutes or so -- but gives you enough of a
window to have the next oral dose kick in.

but here's a curious (or shocking, really) thing -- had to take my
israeli-american PWP who's being treated in israel, to the movement
disorder center at mount sinai hospital in new york city. you'd think,
doesn't get any more cutting-edge than that. well, surprise, surprise --
they've never seen apokyn at work! yes, they know of its existence, but
apparently the stuff is simply unavailable here. :(

hope this helps,

ariela
