Re: Nursing Home Staffing

In my area, Southwest Virginia. CNA's, who do most of the patient care,
change beds and answer call lights, are a minimum wage job with minimum
benefits.

Subject: Nursing Home Staffing

This is a quote which got my attention:

"Finding staff,
maintaining staff morale, and keeping staff is an ongoing problem with
nursing homes....most employees could make more money working at
McDonald's.......with less hassle."

The above may be true for people who change the sheets, clean the floors
etc. But I suppose there are different types of jobs in a nursing home.
The type of job you are referring to is one that involves care and
direct contact with patients. I am curious what people at

McDonald's make ....

and what people
who care for patients at Nursing homes make.

As there are probably regional differences the jobs would have to be in
the same town or area.

I would be very surprised if the people in the nursing home do not make
more money than at McDonald's. So maybe the question is one of
motivation and management at the nursing home.
