Gov. Davis signs stem cell bill! Congrats to you all! Re: stem cells

Congratulations are certainly in order for Greg Wasson, A.J. Campbell, and you,
Maxine. Your contribution to this effort has been enormous given that you have
been the pioneer in Sacramento that got this effort underway, and have worked
with Greg and A.J. every step of the way, and then some. The work the three of
you have given so generously and effectively deserve high praise indeed on the
groundbreaking work to forward stem-cell research here in California. This is
BIG! REALLY BIG!! The rest of the nation has something very worthwhile from
California to emulate.

It should also be pointed out that Greg's and A.J.'s tireless efforts have been
generously given not only in Sacramento, California. They have consistently,
and exhaustively traveled in California as PAN's California State's advocacy
coordinators, and throughout the country as PAN's national PD advocacy
coordinators, successfully
recruiting advocates, giving testimony, talks and interviews to anyone,
anywhere who will listen and help Parkinson advocacy, for what must be 2 years
now. This includes testifying before Senator Dianne Feinstein and other members
of Congress in WDC to fight for PD research and funding.

Greg and A.J. both have PD, and as partners in life, and well as in advocacy,
have spoken eloquently for all of us with dedication and determination to
forward PD research and funding.

A JOB WELL DONE GUYS!!

With gratitude and admiration,

Charlotte Mancuso

along with greg and a.j. i attended this session with the governor signing
the two bills and then meeting with a small number of us after in a mini town
hall meeting. he and deborah ortiz, state senator who authored the bills and has
been a great friend to the parkinson community, took questions for over half
an hour unscripted about all issues . pretty impressive actually. these bills
establish a registry for stem cells, an oversight team to make sure everything
is done in accordance with the law, both public and private stem cell work
and to make anonymous stem cells available to docs/scientists here in california
who do this important work. apparently 35 doctors/scientists from places like
harvard and m.i.t. have come to california to work since the signing last
year of the ortiz bill authorizing the work on stem cells from any source. this
year it further defines what can and is being done with regard to embryonic
stem cells. greg and a.j. have testified tirelessly for well over a year driving
up to sacramento and back home and should be applauded for their efforts.
