Bruce Springsteen, Michael J. Fox Jam At Parkinson's Benefit

Bruce Springsteen, Michael J. Fox Jam At Parkinson's Benefit
by liveDaily Staff

November 03, 2003 02:45 PM - For the fourth consecutive year, Bruce Springsteen
made an unbilled appearance at the
Light of Day Concert, an event to benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

According to reports from New Jersey, Springsteen joined Joe Grushecky and the
Houserockers for a 75-minute set on
Saturday (11/1) at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. At one point, actor Michael
J. Fox, who has Parkinson's, took to the
stage to jam on the Springsteen-penned "Light of Day," the event's theme song.

Bob Benjamin, who manages Grushecky and was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease
in 1996, began organizing benefits for
the Parkinson's Disease Foundation five years ago, according to a press
release. This year, the event was expanded to
two days, but Springsteen appeared only on Saturday.

Others who appeared over the event's two nights included Garland Jeffreys--whom
Springsteen joined for a rendition of
"96 Tears"--Gary U.S. Bonds, Freddie Scott, John Eddie and Dan Bern. CBS Early
Show weatherman Dave Price and actor
Vincent Pastore--who played "Big Pussy" on "The Sopranos"--hosted both nights.

According to publicists, the event raised $100,000 for the Parkinson's Disease
Foundation. The Muscular Dystrophy
Association will also receive a portion of the proceeds for their ALS research
programs. Organizers claim the Light of
Day concerts have now raised more than $200,000.

In September, the two-CD set "Light Of Day: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen" hit
stores. It features 37 Springsteen
songs covered by artists including Elvis Costello, Pete Yorn, Patty Griffin,
Graham Parker, Grushecky, Jeffreys,
Elliott Murphy and Bern. Net proceeds from the CD go to the Parkinson's Disease
Foundation and The Kristen Ann Carr
Fund, which fights sarcoma, a rare cancer.
