Re: No Subject

He has responded to Requip. His doctor stopped him at 3 mg 3X per day.
He was having improvements in his tremoring. I felt it wasn't enough,
and finally convinced them to try 3.5mg. This seems to help even more -
he now blinks and has expression and more personality in addition to
having reduced tremors. When the doctor first told us about Requip, he
said we should increase the dose until we saw side effects, then back
off. Rich still doesn't experience any side effects (other than
drowsiness, which he really had even before the Requip) so I wonder if
he should be taking more?

On the other hand, does taking more Requip hasten the day when it will
no longer work and we have to start on levadopa? Of course, we want to
delay that as long as possible.

When he was first diagnosed, I researched to find the best expert in the
New Orleans area. Dr. Rao was the name everybody gave me. Unfortunately,
at the time Rich was diagnosed (right before Christmas) the earliest
appointment I could get with Dr. Rao was April 20th, so we are still
waiting to see him. In the meantime, we are seeing a neurologist who
says he is a lower-body movement disorder specialist, and although I
like him, I don't think he has the level of expertise with Parkinson's I
am looking for. We have a lot of hopes for Dr. Rao though. Has anyone
heard of him?

Thanks!

Wendy

I would still at least raise a question as to diagnosis. How has he
responded
to "standard" treatment?
