Diane, just got call from guy from I think was the Kansas City Star. They are
going to print this letter. I wish your posts could be on PIEN List so
more of us could join the fray., Ray

Dear Ms. Butcher::

I just read your article about Matt Bartle and cannot understand why he and
his ilk insist on calling a blastocyst a person, yet do not object to fertility
clinics and their routine destruction of embryos.  I guess  they got
established when the rerligious climate was not so powerful.

Also, whose life am I taking if SCNT (Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer) or
therapeutic cloning which uses an  unfertilzed egg (no sperm, an immaculate
conception) and my own DNA from somatic cells is developed to cure my
Parkinson's
Disease?  Research about how cells, not babies, has to be done to begin to make
advances for cures.

I am  an ovarian cancer sruvivor who has had Parkinson's Disease for 8 years
and it is much worse than cancer, a battle you either win or lose; Parkinson's
you lose....slowly.  If Bartle has no compassion for an old bag (68) like me,
what about  children who suffer?

I think it is terrible our fates are decided by the same religious types who
opposed Copernicus and Galileo.

I was born in Kansas City, Mo and sorry to learn my state of "live birth" is
so backward.
