Hi Michel,
We got a note from a cousin of mine regarding NIH guidlnes on stem cell
research. The Alliance for Aging Research (www.agingresearch.org) has
requested folks to email NIH supporting the guidlines
(stemcell@xxxxxxxxxxxx). One can view the guidlines by going to the NIH
web site and using their search option (search on stem cell
research). While obviously we would prefer no guidlines, these probably
are necessary in order to get Congress to allow government supported
stem
cell research.
Perhaps this came over one of the Parkinson's network lists, but in case
it hasn't, it might be something to notify our group about.
I had never heard of the Alliance for Aging Research, but it is composed
of a group of organizations (I don't think APDA or NPF are among them
however).
The AAR suggested wording is: We are for the guidelines because we
believe NIH funding of stem cell research will ensure that therapeutic
benefits for those in need will come as quickly as possible and, because
we believe in having federal oversight of this important new medical
science, monitoring that would not be possible without NIH's
involvement.
