FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEBRUARY 16, 2000
The National Parkinson Foundation Commits $400,000 to Fund
Pilot Study Grants

Princeton, NJ, February 16, 2000 - Jim Cordy, President of
The Parkinson Alliance (PA) announced that the National
Parkinson Foundation's (NPF) Scientific Advisory Board will
be meeting April 14th-16th, 2000 to award pilot study grants
to selected applicants. Submission date for this cycle of
grants is February 15, 2000.

A total of $400,000 will be distributed, each grantee
receiving $30,000 - $50,000. Mr. Nathan Slewett, Chairman
of NPF, Miami views "funding of grants as a crucial step
toward the principal investigator achieving federal funding
(e.g., NIH) for investigator-initiated or programmatic
grants".

These pilot study grants are made possible by the combined
fundraising efforts of the PA, NPF, and The Tuchman
Foundation. Mr. Slewett and Mr.Tuchman joined resources
prior to today, investing in a Stem Cell research project
conducted at the National Institutes of Health, when
$180,000 was added to a successful study that needed
additional funds.

The Parkinson Alliance's sole mission is to raise funds for
pilot study grants. This program was created to
significantly increase the number of high quality Parkinson'
s disease research proposals submitted to the NIH. The
Alliance's goal for this year is to raise $2 million to
advance the process of finding a cure for Parkinson's
disease.
