To all our members:
I thank you all very much for your support & good wishes last week (& your advice...thank you for mentioning the slip..I nipped out & bought one). This has certainly been a week to remember...Thursday, during the day, the doorbell was kept busy by people delivering plants...Thursday evening was unlike anything I've ever experienced!
I couldn't believe it when they announced my name as winner in the Communication section. All my surviving brothers & sisters & brothers- & sisters-in-law were there & my husband and oldest daughter...there were 12 of us at one table & the School of Nursing had the table next to us with about 10 at that table. After receiving the award, the winners had to go off to a separate room & get our photos taken....when I got my newspaper from the front door Friday morning, there was my face, along with the other six winners, right on the front page. I checked the Spectator's web page but didn't see anything there. This has been quite the unexpected deal...my hands have been shaking so much, people might have thought I had Parkinson's!
I now have two daughters in BC who were quite sad that they couldn't come home for this...they sent me flowers (as did my son & daughter-in-law & the School of Nursing) but what I didn't know was that they had emailed the Status of Women committee and the woman who was announcing the winners told us that Laura & Sharon had sent an email for her to read if I won....I think my family went through a lot of Kleenex. I'm still getting emails and phone calls from people I haven't seen or talked to in years. It certainly has been quite an experience. I talked to my grandsons, Isaac & Jesse, who said they were really proud of me and that I was their "grandmother of the year"....buy stock in Kleenex!! btw, really IMPORTANT news...I'm going to be a grandmother again in October...my son & daughter-in-law are expecting a boy in October....my third grandson. I can't believe how lucky I am. My older brother said last night that if something as bad as having Parkinson's had to happen to me, at least something good had come from it...he also gave me one of his prize-winning wood carvings which I will treasure forever.
Thank you all...as I thanked you when I received the award.
