Re: Candidates' voting records
Linda, you have brought up some good points and I agree, we should all make use of the facts about each candidate before we decide. It should not be like voting for class president in 3rd grade, where looks and personality, were almost a guarantee of being elected! I have heard so many people who belong to HMOs or who have marginal health insurance tell me "they never had a problem" or "it's good enough". THEN when a serious condition goes undetected or untreated, and they end up suffering needlessly, and often going to an early grave, the families and the taxpayers will pay the price! Part of the problem is the "spin doctors" who twist words and meanings and use partial quotes of the candidates to mislead the voters. One example: "pro-choice", which DOES NOT mean a person favors abortion, it means that they empower the person who is pregnant to make any decisions about ending the pregnancy, not a government agency! I don't know how George W. Bush stands on that issue, but he is more than happy to terminate adult lives, and those adults were all fetuses at one time! We need someone who will take care of the people, even at the expense of major corporate profits and despite the money those corporations spend lobbying for special favors. Right now it looks like Al Gore is getting my vote. Things could change. If he tries to double the amount spent on research to cure diseases such as Parkinsons, and only increases it by say, 50 percent, it would be bad. However, G W B has not even bought up the subject, has he? So NO increase, is much WORSE! Linda, it has never been more important for us to get as much information as possible before voting, there is too much at stake! I understand that Gore wrote the acceptance speech himself, which is one more reason to believe what he said. I have voted for Republicans in the past, and I will remain open minded and see what develops............... Ken B
