Re: 4 years with 'pig cell' therapy
Marjorie, this may be of interest to you: There was a decision made by someone qualified (I don't recall who or even from what country...) that if a Jew needed a heart valve, for example, from a pig, it was acceptable as is anything that saves a life. It is also allowed for a Jewish person to to drive or do work on the Sabbath, if necessary to save a life or protect a life. I don't know why pigs are used instead of some other animal, to provide donor cells or organs for humans. I assume they are somehow more compatible? I also feel sort of sad for an animal that must give it's life to save a person, but it sure is more noble than becoming a pork chop, eaten and then becoming human waste....... And another subject: in the early days many animals were sacrificed for religious reasons, I can't help but wonder why God would make a perfectly good animal and then want it to be destroyed to please Him........ I guess this is why ultra religious people of most faiths spend much time reading and discussing the Bible, Torah, Koran, etc. to decide how to interpret the Word of God! Something else: many modern day words such as "Stem Cells" ,"automobile", "birth control" , are not present in the Bible, so how can we interpret the Bible as prohibiting or regulating any of the above? I can guarantee that someone will have an answer for that! Ken
