Re: The Bottom Line....

Bruce:

I have a 333 system and run System Works from Norton (Symantec) all the time.
My system is protected constantly with the Anti-Virus. I can tell very little
slowdown from this action.

Anti-Virus protects the system from some 49,000 different virus'. It will scan
the system detect problems, move them to a protected area and keep them under
wraps until you delete them. You have the options to keep or delete. Also you
are told which files are infected so you will know if they are those which
will
create problems when you run a particular system.

Anti-Virus will attempt to disinfect the problem program to clean it up for
use. It is usually successful but on occasion it cannot clean it without
causing problems so it merely places the item in quarantine.

You can let Anti-virus run automatically.....that's the way I do.....or
schedule it to run. Initially you would want to run it against the total
hard disk to detect
and isolate any problems.....usually you would do this from the CD BEFORE
installing
Norton. Once the hard drive is clean then you can install Norton safely. It
has a
scheduler that you can set up to run it periodically but I would recommend
that
you run the Anti-Virus constantly when online. It looks at email and any
downloaded
files to see if there are any attachments or virus look-a-likes before
presenting
them to you for opening.

It is a great package. It informed me of a problem that one of our PD members
had sent a virus attached to the email and I quickly informed her. It did this
while she had no idea that she had been infected. She wasn't running an
anti-virus at the time but she is a believer now. Almost scared her to
death...
but it wasn't her fault.

If I can be of further service....let me know........Jack
