New TV and Print Ad Campaign Urges Embryonic Stem
Cell Supporters to Contact President Bush

'Samantha's Best Hope for a Cure'

WASHINGTON, July 10 /PRNewswire/- The Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation is launching a major TV and print advertising
campaign asking the public to let President Bush know they
support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

The ads, which are running on national and Washington cable
programs and in key print news publications, feature Samantha,
an 11-year-old with juvenile diabetes. Scientists believe embryonic
stem cell research holds exceptional promise for cures for diseases
like Samantha's, as well as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cancer, heart
disease, spinal cord injuries and others.

The ads are aimed at increasing public awareness that embryonic
stem cell research is not simply a scientific or a political issue,
but an issue of human suffering and of great hope among
an estimated 100 million American patients. The campaign reflects
nationwide opinion surveys by several news organizations that
show strong, widespread support for the research, including
among Catholics, fundamentalist Christians and abortion opponents.

President Bush is expected to decide any day whether to continue
federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, under specific
guidelines established last year by the National Institutes for Health.

of diabetes research, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children
with juvenile diabetes -- a disease which strikes children suddenly,
makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat
of devastating complications.
