non PD-Transplants help Huntington's disease

but in the ball park...

Monday June 1, 1998

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Transplants of brain tissue improved the symptoms
of Huntington's disease in monkeys, researchers report. The study,
published in the June issue of Nature Medicine, is called "a
significant advance towards a therapy for Huntington's disease," by the
editors of the journal.

Huntington's disease, an inherited neurological disease that results
from the loss of brain cells, causes involuntary movements, mental and
behavioral deterioration, and leads to death within 15 years of
diagnosis. The disease usually strikes people around age 40, and there
is currently no effective treatment for the disease.
