Movement Disorder Specialists

Dear Jane:

A Movement Disorders Specialist is a neurologist that has further narrowed
down his/her specialty to neurological diseases that affect movement, such
as Parkinson's. Most general neurologists deal with a wide variety of
illnesses. When you hear someone refer to a "Parkinson's Specialist", it is
really referring to a Movement Disorders Specialist.

The specialists in your state that are affiliated with us (NPF) are located
in Columbus. If you are interested, please email me directly and I will
give you details. bcunning@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

In the meantime, it is wise to keep your mom in the physical therapy
program. Taking medications alone is only half the battle. Regular
routine exercise is essential in order to keep her functioning at her
maximum potential.

Take Care,

Bonnie Cunningham, R.N.

Subject: Movement Disorder Specialist

I have been hearing alot about Movement Disorder Specialists since I
joined the list last week, and was wondering if anybody could describe
this occupation to me or how I could go about finding one. My mother
lives in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, and is starting to see a physical
therapist, but everyone is recommending an MDS, so I'm trying to find
out more info.

Thanks,
Jane (c/g for Ruth 57/2)
