Botulism as therapy for PD

I met a woman at a picnic last week who told me that she received
botulism (!) shots every three months for her PD symptoms - in her
throat for speech problems and in her ankles for joint pain. She was
diagnosed more than 15 years ago. I thought I had not understood her
correctly (she spoke very softly and with a lot of slur in her voice)
but I asked both her caregiver and her husband who confirmed that this
was one of the treatments she was receiving.

Anybody know anything about this? I find it hard to believe,
but........
