Ritalin info
the April 4, 98 issue of Science News contains an article on Ritalin,page213. methylphenidate is the active ingredient and there are two enantiomers - half of each- in the drug. testing to determine activity of the separated enantiomers, d-threo and l=ADthreo, separately using PET scans showed that the d-threo enantiomer seek= s the basal ganglia where the drug's therapeutic effect. usage to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder was the focus. it was suggested that formulating with only the d-thrreo enantiomer in the med might reduce side effects. methyphenidate acts by retarding the re-uptake of dopamine according to the review article.
