Democracy - Republic or whatever.   The founders  set up our government as
a rule by the majority with respect for the minority - however thanx to ACLU
and other organizations we now have rule by the minority with little respect
for the majority. Check out the Federalist Papers  -  can be tough reading
but some years ago I was laid up with a broken leg and did a lit or reading
on the Revolution and the times around there
