When I replied to Bruce Anderson's question on cholesterol, I didn't plan on chapter 2 so soon. I usually play golf Friday in Florida, our winter domicile. My knee was sore so I was in Daytona for auto repairs. About 30 minutes into the repairs, my right chest felt extreme pressure which didn't let up. I was given a ride to the hospital, which was within a mile. A team worked on me in the emergency room. After 7 hours, I was admitted to the cardiac intensive care. My doctor was on all weekend , but he thought we should wait until Monday to let things settle down. Monday, they did an angigram which gives a picture of the heart structure. Their procedure here was to do the neccessary intervention as part of this procedure, rather than a separate angiplasty like I had 11 years ago. One of my leg vein grafts of 11 years ago had closed. It destroyed a tiny portion of my heart, but they decided my collateral blood supply was sufficient. On a scale of 1 to 25, 25 being the worst, mine was about a 1. I have a video which shows the procedure and my heart structure. This will be invaluable to my doctors in the Northeast , in planning my heart program. My lessons to be passed on: 1. If you , loved ones or friends have chest pains or pressure, mine has always been pressure, seek immediate medical help. There is much they can do usually if you are fast. 2. Nita mentioned aspirin. I have taken one ascriptin a day for 11 years. After I reached the emergency room, they gave me continuous blood thinners via iv's. When I was discharged yesterday, I was given two prescriptions for blood pressure, which I have kept under control for years, and aspirin. Let's hope the research soon will give PD prevention and cures similar to the vast knowledge on heart. Some have posted web pages on cholesterol , and knowledge of this is very important. There is currently a huge study going on for cholesterol. My doctor at Lahey Clinic, New England's equivalent of Mayo Clinic, represents Lahey on this.
