Re: Nursing home regulations-restraints

In Michigan the staff informs the doctor *and* the family about the need for
patient restraints. The restraint policy for each patient must be reviewed
every 24 hours and must be re-ordered by the physician. The family also
must be informed that the use of restraints is being continued.

It is beyond my comprehension how a facility can tell a family that a
demented patient who is at risk of falling will not be restrained regardless
of their request. It would seem that the liability involved could be
considerable if your mother sustains an injury that leads to her injury or
death.
