A new compound, KW-6002, improves dyskinesias when administered alone
and potentiates levodopa, according to this study.
MPTP-treated monkeys with dyskinesias from chronic levodopa treatment
were given either 60 or 90 mg/kg KW-6002 with or without
levodopa/benserazide. Animals were rated for locomotion, parkinsonian
disability, and dyskinesias.
KW-6002 alone at both doses stimulated locomotion to an extent similar
to levodopa/benserazide alone. Dyskinesias virtually disappeared when
KW-6002 was administered alone. When administered together, the higher
dose potentiated the effects of levodopa/benserazide by approximately
30%. Effects were maintained for the 21 days of the study.
