being used is not necessarily a bad thing
it might be what we're here for

we think we need pats on the back
from external sources
but we don't

if i feel compelled to do something
i will do it irregardless
heedless of criticism

if i don't allow the nay-sayers to change my course
why should i feel any need for the yay-sayers to applaud my finish?
