Please, Protect and Fund Stem Cell Research at the NIH...

Please, Protect and Fund Stem Cell Research at the NIH for the sake of the
whole nation;
it's a small investment that will save tens of billions of dollars to our
government and
nation, not to mention the human suffering of people from all religions and
walks of life
who suffer from all kinds of disorders and diseases. Please read and share
these words with
your colleagues for the sake of the nation and your own futures.

Just yesterday stem-cell language was removed from the HSS appropriations bill.
 STEM-CELL
RESEARCH PROMOTES LIFE: not only NEW LIFE through in vitro fertilization, but
in SAVING
HUMAN LIVES by utilizing cells that would otherwise be discarded. These CELLS
ARE DONATED
so that others can live, just as ORGANS ARE DONATED so that many people you
know, have and
will been saved. These cells could not possibly be used to produce a new human
life--the
ones used to create a new life have been already selected to produce NEW LIFE.
THESE
UNUSABLE CELLS that are being discarded are the ones used for stem-cell
extraction in
research and in actual human transplantation that has already been done and
greatly improved
lives! It's the same as organ donation; it's not taking a life, it's giving
NEW LIFE AND
IS LIFE SAVING---IT'S A WIN WIN. In organ donation, death gives life, in
stem-cell
transplantation LIFE GIVES LIFE!

Stem-cell research PROMOTES LIFE----curtailing it curtails life!

SPECIAL EDITION: Dickey stem cell amendment withdrawn
             ***********************************************************

An amendment scheduled to be offered today at the full House
Appropriations
Committee mark up of the FY 2000 Labor, Health and Human Services,
Education, and Related Agencies (L/HHS) spending bill that would
have
prevented the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from funding
research
with embryonic stem cells was withdrawn late last night at the
request of
the House leadership. (see Washington Fax9/30/99)

Rep. Jay Dickey, R-AR, the amendment's sponsor withdrew his rider
to meet
the broad request of House Majority Whip Thomas DeLay, R-TX, that
no
controversial amendments be tacked on to this spending bill.
Dickey has
indicated that he has no plans to offer the amendment when the
bill reaches
             the House floor.

Advocates of stem cell research say they believe they have "dodged
a
bullet" and that for the time being the tide of politics has
switched to a
more favorable flow for them by eliminating worry of an amendment
to the
             existing spending bill.

The Senate at this hour has set aside floor debate of its L/HHS
bill and
             turned to other matters.
