Re: Bloating
Terry, If the bloating you refer to is in the stomach, and not the colon (flatulence), here's an explanation. One possible cause of bloating is delayed stomach emptying, which is not uncommon in Parkinsonians. The muscles of the gastrointestinal tract slow down, so food doesn't move along at its normal rate. When the stomach slows down, food and stomach acids remain in the stomach much longer and gases can build up, causing bloating. I would encourage your friend to eat small meals with frequent snacks. A full stomach takes much longer to empty than a half-full stomach, and there is less likelihood of bloating.
