Newsgroup access

Rich Morelli expressed some concern regarding whether, if there were
a Parkinson's newsgroup, everyone would be able to access it. Some
people have only e-mail, some have limited newsgroup access. There
are two aspects to this.

Posting to a newsgroup - This possible via e-mail if it is a function
provided by the particular e-mail program you are using. My internet
service offers several e-mail programs, and I chose one called Pine.
It lets you post to a newsgroup or send mail to a regular e-mail
address or both.

Reading from a newsgroup - The newsgroup messages do not go into your
mail boxes, but instead are stored on computers called news servers,
which are accessed by newsreader programs. Subscribing to a newsgroup
means telling the newsreader program which newsgroups to fetch for you
from the news server.

If your internet access provider does not carry a newsgroup you are
interested in, they might add it if you request. If you have no news-
group access at all, but only e-mail, then there is still a way, but
it's not all that convenient.

Stanford University offers a news filtering and delivery service which
selects newsgroup articles according to criteria you specify and then
e-mails a maximum of 60 lines of each selected article periodically. If
you want more than 60 lines of an article, you e-mail back to Stanford
the newsgroup name and the ID number of the article. For details, send
an e-mail message containing
