This question has not been answered definitively, but most movement disorder
scientists today believe that there is some genetic component involved.  The
cause of PD is multi-factorial.  It is thought that some 'susceptibility
factor' may be inherited, but that some environmental factor needs to be
present in order to 'trigger' the development of PD.
