I have a "Track Ball" built into my keyboard, the "Mighty KeyBoard."
Don't know who sells these in the USA. Sorry.


I find this an excellent approach. I always know where it is (unlike a
mouse) and my hand can stay steady because it sits on the wrist pad while
my fingers (only) move around.

I've never looked back.  Good luck.
