Speech Therapy
Mom has benefited from "ordinary" speech therapy, obtained conveniently at her NH, and covered by Medicare. She also had a fancy swallowing test done, where a speech pathologist evaluated what was going on by watching the xray (or whatever) of some stuff (radioactive I guess) as Mom swallowed it. The pathologist was then able to make some very specific recommendations to the therapist back at the NH. So -- even if the Silverman therapy is not available, I'd encourage anyone with speech/breathing problems to give speech therapy a try. And yes, it's a common problem.
