Udall 6/20 Friday Action Update

I have been asked to post this by Mike Claeys, PAN
--------------------------------------------
Friday Action Update
June 20, 1997

The Parkinson's Action Network is finalizing the agenda and arrangements
for the Fourth Annual Public Policy Forum in Washington, DC, July 13 -
16. This year's agenda is clearly the best ever. To ensure the maximum
positive impact on the Udall bill, we now need to strive for the
greatest possible attendance.

Historically (and with a few exceptions), the Northeast and Western
regions of the country have accounted for the greatest number of Forum
attendees. This year, special efforts must be made to encourage
advocates from the Southern, Mid-western and Northwestern regions to
visit DC, learn new advocacy skills and directly lobby Members from
those areas who still haven't signed onto the Udall bill.

Get the latest updates on Parkinson's research, share the experiences of
activists around the country, learn how our government really works and
make your voice heard! To register or for more information, please
contact the Network at (800) 850-4726.

These updates are intended to inform and inspire Parkinson's activists,
and you are encouraged to publish, reproduce and distribute them to any
and all interested persons.

Udall Bill Update

Senate: The work of grassroots advocates in Arkansas and on Capitol
Hill has paid off in the addition of Senator Tim Hutchinson (R-AR) to
the Udall bill's list of cosponsors. Senator Hutchinson is the fifth
Republican member of the Labor Committee to cosponsor the bill, leaving
only five Republicans still unsigned. All eight Democrat members of the
Committee are cosponsors.

House: This week's cosponsors take the House total to 204, ever closer
to the 218 majority. Of special note is the addition of Rep. Gerald
Solomon (R-NY), Chair of the powerful House Rules Committee.
Effectively a member of the Republican Leadership, Mr. Solomon's support
will undoubtedly be helpful as the Udall bill moves towards passage in
the House. Congratulations to the determined New York state advocates.

Co-sponsor Count: Senate: 56 House: 204

This week's cosponsors:

Senate House
Tim Hutchinson (R-AR) Gerald Solomon (R-NY)
Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) Richard Pombo (R-CA)
                                Ciro Rodriguez (D-TX)
                                John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI)

As always, when you see any of your local Legislators listed here,
please contact them to say, "Thanks for supporting the Udall bill!"
