Re: PARKINSN Digest - 13 Nov 1994 to 14 Nov 1994
Barbara, thanks for mentioning my comments about home care in Fla. To all you Floridians, do check it out. My initial problems came from trying to arrange things for my Mom from long-distance. I called a social worker acquaintance of mine in Fla. and she told me services were scarce, and the need far exceeded the supply, so it was a catch-as-catch-can system. She was very frustrated and concerned. Since then, I have discovered that by contacting my Mom's physician who could order services, she has had daily visits from wonderful, caring nurses. Some of these people have even called her in the evening with suggestions, checking on her, etc. They have now recommended physical therapy, with the PT coming to her home. The children in this situation have a difficult job, because there's that patient confidentiality thing (which is fine) that prevents one from handling very much for the parent (PD person) and if that parent is incapable of doing extensive calling, researching services, etc. it can be tricky. Anyway, my sentiments are "God bless those caring individuals who work diligently for the patient's good...they are underpaid and underpraised!" Thanks for the vent! Lynn Lowe
