                        infinite regress?
                the thought goes something like this:

                  our universe is but a single atom,
                floating on a much larger cosmic ocean,
                      which we can never see.

                             -and-

                           every atom,
                     afloat on our universal sea,
                       is a miniature cosmos.

                        an infinite regress,
                           up and down.
