Leaving the Parkinsn List for Vacation or...Forever
For what ever reason some need to take a respite from our fine company. 1. If you change internet providers but forget to change your subscription before you leave the old provider, a note to Barb is necessary to kill your old account. Barb's address is: patterso@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2. If you are going on vacation, it is not necessary to leave the list. The listserv has a command to suspend your mail from the list while you are gone. These same commands work to suspend your mail while you catch-up on your reading and printing. All listserv commands are directed to: listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In the body of the message put only: set parkinsn nomail When you get back from vacation send another message to the listserv with the following command in the body of the message: set parkinsn mail If you regularly receive the list messages in digest form, use the command: set parkinsn digest To check your subscription specifications send a message to: listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In the body of the message put: query parkinsn 3. If you need to leave the list permanently, send a message from the same mail account and username that you regularly receive list mail at. Send the message to: listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In the body of the message put only: SIGNOFF parkinsn It is not necessary to identify yourself by putting your name after parkinsn. The word UNSUBSCRIBE does not work to leave the list, SIGNOFF is the proper word. 4. WORD OF CAUTION: If you do not receive mail from the list for a day, something under your control, or mishap by your internet provider has forced the listserv to cancel your subscription to the parkinsn list. If your mail reader program has the option to leave the messages on the server, don't select that. When you download your mail with that type of program, it is desirable for the program to automatically delete the old mail on the server, leaving space for new incoming mail. A. If you do not read and delete old messages regularly, some service providers refuse to receive new mail for you. If that happens, the listserv pulls the plug on you. You have to resubscribe. B. If the service provider has problems with their server and listserv mail bounces, the listserv will pull the plug on you. You have to resubscribe. C. If you receive mail at work on a network that is down from time to time on weekends, the listserv will pull the plug on you if it tries to send a message to you and your workstation network is down. In order to check to see if you are subscribed, send mail to: listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In the body of the message put: rev parkinsn by name The list returned is sorted by name.
