Re: Lucy's B-Day Poem
Lucy's birthday poem--how lovely--truly poetic and heartfelt. I'm sure Daddy loved it too. Do you know the story of Hidako and the 1000 paper crames? After the atom bombing of her Hiroshima home, Hidako heard the tale that if one folded 1000 paper crames, she would get a wish. She was suffereing from radiation sickness, and wanted to get well, so started folding the crames. She died before reaching 1000, but her family completed them. Ever since, the cranes have been a special symbol, and the memorial in Japan to the children killedin the bonbing is literally covered with many thousands of cranes folded by people all over Japan and visitors, as a sign of hopes for peace.
