 Hi Bill,

 I'm not familiar with any particular brand of
 shoe, but I know that my father (having the same
 shuffling and balance trouble as yours) prefers
 shoes with a smooth leather sole that have a
 woven upper.  The woven upper stretches well and
 gives a bit if the foot swells.   He suggests an
 Italian maker.  Finds them more comfortable and
 durable.
