I can't find the original message giving their official reason for being,
but they are a service that monitors your progress by mail. You fill out a
form from time to time and they respond with suggestions. I have found them
to be most helpful and supportive. For example, here is a partial quote
from the message I received in August.

"Your disease has remained approximately stable. This, in itself,
represents progress, since there has not be an advance of the disease. We
would like to see actual improvement in your disease over the long term, so
work hard at the suggestions that follow and those you have been given
previously."

They had much more to say, but as you can see, they give specific
suggestions for the problems I indicate, but they are the only ones I have
found who keep saying that I might improve. Just having it said, makes me
feel better.
