New Surgical Procedure
THE CAPITAL CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL PARKINSON FOUNDATION in conjunction with the Georgetown University Support Group will be hosting Dr. Taub, who will speak about a new procedure, Pallidal Brain Stimulation. He will be flown in from Canada, where they are currently performing the operation. The talk will take place at Georgetown University's neurology department in Washington, D.C. on Monday, November, 20 at 2:00 P.M. Pallidal Stimulation involves a thin wire electrode into the globus pallidus of the brain, the site of abnormal activity in Parkinson's Disease. The electrode, attached to a pulse generator sends a high-frequency signal to block the brain's overactive impulses that result in the tremor and halting steps of Parkinson's. We are trying to accomadate everyone, so if you are interested in attending, please email back or call at 202-466-0550. It is the goal of The Capital Chapter of NPF to find the best methods to combat this terrible disease and make the public aware of them.
