Dan, You use the phrase (surgical procedures) "to buy time until a cure " is developed. My PD Specialist in Tampa says, given the current state of Research, there may never be the funds and short term resources to evaluatae a "new procedure" (cure?) in those cases where one had already had a Pallidotomy, Fetal Implant, etc. His advice: "Wait until you MUST choose--then you'll be able to make the BEST choice for your sit- uation>" A premature choice MAY limit what a responsible Neurosurgeon will give you in the future. This certainly cleared up my thinking. I'm 63, P for 14 years, take l l/2 Sinemet 25/100 at three hour intervals, Eldepryl, Permax, and Serzone, a rather new anti-depressant which lets me sleep well, and does not interfere with sexual function.
